Description
generally red; forehead, lores, crown and nape black; upper breast red; lower breast, abdomen, thighs, under tail-coverts, band to nape and back dark blue; blue band to nape extends to blue on breast; wings bronze-green; under wing-coverts red; broad yellow band to underside of wing; underside of tail-feathers dull olive-yellow; red with bluish-black tips on upperside; cere dark grey; skin to perophthalmic ring black; iris yellow to orange-red; feet grey; bill orange-red. Female as male.
Immatures with blue under tail-coverts; bill black; iris dark.
Length: 31 cm, wing length 150 - 175 mm

Vogelkop Peninsular, West Irian and islands of Waigeu, Batanta, Salawati and Misool.
